Who’s Who

Football Freestyling is part of the Move Movement, a healthy lifestyle initiative and major fundraiser of the Westmead Medical Research Foundation. It’s all about moving, keeping fit and maintaining a healthy lifestyle to prevent disorders and disease, such as cancer and diabetes.

Westmead Medical Research Foundation

The Westmead Medical Research Foundation (WMRF) provides advocacy and fundraising support for Westmead Hospital, Westmead Children’s Hospital and the Westmead Millennium Institute.

As a group, this medical ‘hub’ at Westmead in Sydney’s west is among the nation’s pre-eminent medical services providers. In addition to the vital and well-known support provided to thousands of patients and their families by the hospitals at Westmead, daily, the Westmead Millennium Institute conducts world-leading research that is improving the treatment and ultimately seeking cures for a range of devastating and often fatal medical conditions.

The Westmead Millennium Institute represents a group of approximately 400 scientists, each committed to finding cures for life-threatening diseases. Their research is targeted in five distinct areas:

  • Cancer
  • Infection & immunity
  • Neuroscience & vision
  • Cardio-respiratory
  • Liver & metabolic

The Westmead Medical Research Foundation is a private, not-for-profit institution and we do not receive any government funding. We rely on the generosity of members of the community (that’s you!) to continue our cutting edge work.

That’s why we constantly come up with dynamic campaigns that help us raise money to continue our great work, and let the rest of the world know how to lead a happy, healthy life. Enter the Move Movement…

The Move Movement

The Move Movement is a healthy lifestyle initiative and the Westmead Medical Research Foundation’s major educational and fundraising campaign.

The goal is to encourage all Australians, regardless of age or circumstances, to adopt a more healthy and active lifestyle. To raise funds to support the Foundation’s vital medical services and targets, everyone who participates in the Move Movement is encouraged to ask their friends and family to sponsor their efforts.

All funds raised through the Move Movement go to the Westmead Medical Research Foundation to support life-saving medical research initiatives.

People can take part in the Move Movement any time they like, but at certain times of year, we launch new campaigns, events and prizes to keep the Move Movement interesting and fresh.

Of course, 2010 is FIFA World Cup year, and we just couldn’t resist getting into the action, which leads us all the way back to Football Freestyling..

Football Freestyling

Football Freestyling is your chance to be part of the excitement and energy of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, while doing your bit to support world-class medical research.

It’s a part of the Move Movement , but it ONLY runs for the duration of the World Cup, which is from 11 June to 11 July, 2010.

In essence, you film yourself doing your best (or funniest) ‘freestyle’ moves with a soccer ball. You register with the Move Movement and upload your video to the website. You get your friends to sponsor your efforts to raise money for medical research. And you go into the running to win some great prizes.

You’re in the Football Freestyling website right now, so take a look around to learn more.
